

James Arlen Johnson answered the Lords call and was welcomed into His arms Friday, August 26, 2011. He was a devoted and loving husband, brother, father and grandfather. Jim was preceded in death by his father Harold W. Johnson. His mother, Margaret, is residing in Pocatello, Idaho, along with brothers John (Sue), Greg (Jenny), and Tom (Linda); Mike (Chris), Linda (Dan), Patty (Mike), Boise, Idaho, and Jennifer (Ness) of Virginia.
Jim is leaving behind his beloved wife, Helen, of 46 years, sons Jim (Audrey), Patrick (Erin) and daughter Samantha (Bill) Phillips, his six grandchildren Lindsay, Dallas, Brodie, Isabella, Noah and Max will truly miss their Papa.
Jim was born in Boise, Idaho on February 4, 1944. After graduating from Pocatello High School in 1962 he enlisted into the Army. Jim graduated from John F. Kennedy Special Forces (Green Beret) Center in 1966 and shortly thereafter was deployed to serve in Vietnam. In 1969 Sgt. Johnson returned home and settled in Mesa, AZ to raise his family. Fishing, camping, exploring the desert, spring training baseball, bowling and cruising the world brought him happiness. Church, Homeless ministries and mentoring children at Hudson Elementary School filled his life. He was known as James, Jim, J.J., Johnny, Dad, and Papa...But everyone truly knew him as "Friend". Services will be held at CrossPoint Tempe Church, 1001 East Southern Avenue on Friday Sept. 2nd. at 6:00 p.m.
