

Jean is survived by sons David R. Bloom and Leonard Bloom; granddaughter Elizabeth C. Bloom-Drexler (Hugh Drexler); great-grandchildren Andrew D. Bloom-Drexler and Arabella A. Bloom-Drexler; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Roswell Flower Savage & Elizabeth Reed Jackson Savage; husband Henry Bloom; sisters Mary Margaret Edgarton, Helen E. Majo, Carol F. Savage and brothers Lyle J. Savage, Karl A. Savage and Robert K. Savage.
Jean was raised outside of Dexter on the peninsula of Pillar Point in Jefferson County, New York. Raised on the family dairy farm to parents Ross & Elizabeth Savage who were some of the earliest settlers in the area. She graduated from Dexter, New York High School in 1943 and Crouse Irving School of Nursing in 1946, working at Crouse Irving Memorial hospital in Syracuse, NY, rising to the position of Head Nurse. She absolutely loved nursing. A lifelong member of the Crouse Irving Nurse Alumni Association in Syracuse, NY and a cancer survivor from 1977.
Growing up Jean was a member of the 4H club in Pillar Point. After getting married she became an active member of the Beth Shalom Synagogue in Dewitt, NY. She loved Northern New York where she grew up and the Adirondacks where she spent time with family friends. She became a lifelong accomplished golfer having been taught the game by husband Henry. She was an active member of the ladies golf leagues at Cazenovia Country Club, in Cazenovia, NY, Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, NY, Wa-Nao Golf Course, East Syracuse, NY and Paradise Valley Public Golf Course in Phoenix, AZ. She was a multiple club champion of the final 3 Ladies leagues that she participated in. She was also a cross country skier in New York.
Jean & Henry moved to Phoenix when Henry retired, to be near family after Elizabeth, her only grandchild, was born. She loved animals, helping raise numerous puppies and kittens from the local SPCA, fostering them to an age old enough to be later adopted from the shelter. Jean loved riding horses in her youth and had numerous pets in her home over the years. Dexie, a German Shepard and Tommy, a Tomcat, were her early favorites followed by many more. She also knit dozens of lap blankets to donate to the wounded veterans living here in Phoenix.
Jean was a longtime fan of Syracuse University basketball team having been a former season ticket holder and her baseball team was the Brooklyn Dodgers (now the L.A. Dodgers). She enjoyed watching golf, football and sports in general on TV. She kept sharp by testing her knowledge watching Jeopardy daily. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, knitting and there wasn’t anything she couldn’t make, bake or cook.
Jean passed peacefully at home with her sons alongside her, Friday afternoon, October 27, 2023. Friends and family are encouraged to attend a brief service at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary at 200 Beardsley Road in Phoenix, on November 17th. at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation to the Pomeroy College of Nursing Scholarship Fund through the Crouse Health Foundation at 736 Irving Ave., Syracuse, NY 13210, or your local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), or any organization to help Wounded Veterans.
Grandma Jean was the best mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend anybody could ever ask for. She will be dearly missed and remembered fondly by all who knew her.
