

Jerry "Rocky" Rachwitz, 72, went home to be with his Lord on July 23, 2010. He was at his home in Glendale, AZ, surrounded by his family and friends. Jerry was born in Omaha, NE, on November 1, 1937. After graduating from Omaha Tech, he served in the US Army Reserves as a tank driver. He worked for the US Postal Service for several years, then served on the Omaha Fire Department for two years before moving to Phoenix, AZ to become a firefighter for the Phoenix Fire Department. There he served for 36 years, retiring as Deputy Chief in 1999. Known to his friends and fellow firefighters as 'Rocky,' he faithfully served IAFF Local 493 for over 20 years. Jerry was a long-time private pilot, who served the aviation community as a volunteer pilot for the Civil Air Patrol for many years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, children, Dean, Vicki and Camille, his grandchildren, Amanda, Samantha, Rebekah, Sarah and Emily, his great-grandson, Christian, his brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Karin. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 27th at 12PM at All Saints Episcopal Church, 6300 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix. Reception with meal will follow the services.
