

Joan Marie Finklea of Chandler, Arizona passed away December 4, 2014 at the age of 89. She was born in Phoenix, Arizona on April 8, 1925. Joan Marie Aker attended North Phoenix High School Class of 1943 and left in April of her senior year to marry her true love before he was deployed to serve in the Army Air Corps as a Hump Pilot during WWII. She was married to Robert D. Finklea on April 6, 1943. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women and had a passion for music, children, animals, and helping others. She was an inspiration to everyone she met with her positive outlook on life despite her many challenges. She was a polio survivor for 68 years. At the age of 21, and the mother of two small children, she was severely affected by the disease and lost most of the use of her legs but was able to walk with braces and canes. Despite her mobility limitations, she was a wonderful mother to four children and a shining star to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and her many dear friends throughout her long life. Joan Marie Aker Finklea was predeceased by her husband, Robert D. Finklea on April 30, 2003 and her granddaughter Jill Robin Finklea who passed November 15, 2014. She is survived by her children: James Finklea of Las Vegas, NV, Leigh Hartman of La Jolla, CA, Susan Lucking of Tempe, AZ, and Tom Finklea of Tucson, AZ; daughter-in-law, Nancy Finklea of Las Vegas, NV; sons-in-law, Stan Hartman of La Jolla, CA and Steve Lucking of Tempe, AZ; grandchildren: Rob Finklea of Gilbert, AZ, Katherine Finklea of Las Vegas, NV, Stan Hartman of London, England, Jaime June of Bozeman, MT, Kristina Shell of Lexington KY, Tom Lucking of Tempe, AZ, Tanya Finklea of Tempe, AZ, Tiphany Finklea of Tempe, AZ; and great grandchildren: Courtney and Ceferino Cortes of Las Vegas, NV, Divante Shell of Lexington, KY, Jackson, Everett and Cora June of Bozeman, MT, Alexandra, Stanford, and Theodore Hartman of London, UK, Ava Arteaga of Tempe, AZ, Serenity Villanueva of Tempe, AZ, and Elliana Fate of Tempe, AZ.
