I spent 45 years running wild with Joan Greenwalt!  We watched dozens of movies and every episode of the Golden Girls and Downton Abbey, ate magnificent meals, went to amazing parties – including the SAG Awards in Hollywood and a few terrific evenings with Kate at the Officers Club at Davis Monthan Air Force Base! We shopped for clothes and shoes until we dropped, and haunted thrift stores for costume jewelry and mystery finds. 

Basically, we rocked the world! 

From the day we met in 1976 when I was 15-years old to our 10-day Caribbean cruise in 2018 and reminiscing just days before her passing, she was my other mother and lifelong great, good friend.  
There are too many wonderful times to recount here, but we shared the greatest and most irreplaceable gift of all – her grandchildren Shelly "Granny's Darling" Greenwalt Carter and Angela "Sweet Anners" Greenwalt Ali. When Shelly and Angie were born, Joan absconded with them (in spirit) and never looked back! They were her pride and joy and the loves of her life along with Jim, Joe, Kate, Tom, her great grandchildren Ceidre Bashaw, Yazmine Ali, Laviza Ali, Aminah Ali, Arif Thomas Ali, great great grandies Ryleigh Noelle and William Thomas Bashaw, and the rest of the kids and grandkids. Joan knew that the most important thing is family.

We are heartbroken, but I am content to have basked in the warm and unconditional love of a truly remarkable and outstanding human being and to have had great fun along the way. And I am happy that my children had her deepest love and devotion throughout their lives. 

All of us are who we are because of Joan - her character, influence, support, time, steady presence, and her abiding affection.

Sweet dreams and pleasant rest, Joanie. We will see you on the other side. Until then, our spirits fly with you.
