

Joan Eichenauer Gresham, born December 13, 1926, in Yuma, Arizona, passed away at the age of 97 on June 14, 2024. She is survived by her beloved children: daughter Cherie Hart; son C. Michael Hart; daughter-in-law Paula Hart; grandson Woody Hart and his spouse, Tatiana Hart; and granddaughter Erin Kathleen and her spouse, Raul Rodriguez. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, William Gresham; her three brothers, John, Marshall, and Kenneth; and her dearest identical twin sister, Jean Eichenauer Irvine.
Joan was a dedicated mother and wife, nurturing her family with love and care. After graduating from Phoenix Union High School and attending Phoenix College, she devoted herself to raising her children. Following the end of her marriage to Clyde Hart, she found new purpose in 1962 by joining the family business, Eichenauer Nutrition Center Inc. Joan began by operating her own store at the Chris-Town Shopping Mall. After her successes there, the family went on to open additional stores. Joan and her husband William went on to own and operate Joan Eichenauer Health Foods and Birkenstock Footwear for 31 years. The last site becoming Healthy Habit Health Foods.
Joan's expertise in health foods and natural living touched the lives of countless customers and friends. She was instrumental in bringing Birkenstock footwear to Phoenix in 1969, a testament to her pioneering spirit. Esteemed figures like Jack LaLanne, the "Godfather of Fitness," Paul Bragg, Patricia Bragg, Gaylord Hauser, and Dr. Norman W. Walker graced her store with lectures, furthering her mission to educate and inspire.
Joan's productive life was filled with additional remarkable accomplishments: she played piano by ear, hiked in the Swiss Alps, and upon retiring in 2001, embraced her passion for ballroom dancing, becoming a vibrant performer. Her legacy of love, knowledge, and inspiration will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. A private family burial service is scheduled for July 9, 2024.
