

JoAnn Amelia Hill, 74 of Phoenix, Az, passed away on January 28, 2014. Surrounded by her family at her home in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on July 12, 1939, in Marshall, Minnesota to Walter and Emily Larson. Her mother, born in Norway, reared her and her siblings in a proud Norwegian heritage family in Waterville, Minnesota. She earned her nursing degree at Mankato State University. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in California in 1962, she became Associate Director of Nursing at the Roseville Community Hospital. Here she met her husband, Charles Hill, whom she married on June 7, 1969. In 1970, she and her husband relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where she worked at Good Samaritan Hospital. She retired in 2003 after 12 years as school nurse with the Phoenix Center for Education.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years; daughters Jennifer and Allison; step-daughter Kathy; son Stephen; granddaughter Amelia and her father Tom Shackelford; sister and brother-in-law Wanda and Herb Hegstrom; sister-in-law Joan Larson; brother-in law Blue Wrigley; sister-in-law Gwen Larson; uncle Eddie Engebretson and many nieces and nephews. JoAnn was predeceased by her father, mother, step-father Walter Penkert; brother Ludwig, sister Sharon and half-brother Fritz Larson.
Visitation will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 1500 W. Maryland Avenue, Phoenix, Az 85015 on February 3 at 10:00am. Funeral service immediately following visitation. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Az at a later date. Arrangements entrusted by A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary.
