John is survived by his daughter Angel Jannasch-Pennell (Michael), son Chris Jannasch (Cherry), sister Elizabeth (Jo) Jannasch, and his three loving grandchildren, Madeline, Calista, and Aiden.
John was born in Crown Point, IN and graduated from Crown Point High School (’64). He attended both University of Arizona and Indiana University in pursuit of his bachelor’s degree. He was drafted into the US Army in 1966 and served two years during the Vietnam War as a radar repair specialist. John always loved cars, especially classic Fords. He owned John’s Auto Repair Shop for 10 years and worked as a mechanic for 40+ years, including more than a decade spent at US Steel in Gary, IN working on Caterpillars as an engine specialist. His life long work ethic was unshakable, working until his last day with us.
John enjoyed car racing, an occasional trip to the local casino, visiting Sedona, shooting at the range with his son, and having lunch with friends. He was always there to help friends with car projects. John will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
A special thank you to the Phoenix Veteran’s Hospital for the on-going care and support of his health throughout the years.
Services will be held Saturday, February 24th, 2018 at 11:00 am at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd, Phoenix, AZ. John will be laid to rest at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
