John McQuitty, 84, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on May 19, 2025. He was born on July 14, 1940, in Miami, Oklahoma, to Jack and Lavone McQuitty. John was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved son John, and his wife Rachel.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Suzie; his daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle & Michael Trafton and Jennifer & David Kasarskis; his cherished grandchildren, Ridgely, Beckett, Dalton, Nathan, Hannah, Brandon, Abby, Paige, Michael Jr., and Taylor; and his great-grandchildren, Rowen, Camden, Macsen, and Franklin.
John graduated from Rosedale High School in Kansas City, Kansas, where he excelled in football, basketball, track, and other sports. He went on to attend Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas, where he formed lifelong friendships and played for the Sigma Phi Epsilon intramural basketball team. In 1960, John enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a submariner aboard the USS Redfish (AGSS-395) until 1964, traveling the world in service to his country.
A memorial gathering will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 2929 East Pinnacle Peak Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85024.
Celebration of Life Reception
Following the service, family and close friends will gather for a celebration of John’s life at their home.
