

90, Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, May 20, 2013. Jose was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Jose was a loving husband to his wife for almost 50 years and caring father to 9 children. Jose was a successful business man with humble beginnings as a railroad worker in the state of Washington and eventually an auto mechanic. Jose was best known for owning Shell Gas Stations in LA and Phx. He ran a successful business for over 30 years where he met and touched many people. After retirement Jose went on to work for the Madison School District as a crosswalk guard and retired as a driver’s aide working with special needs children. Jose is preceded in death by his loving wife Bertha and his daughter Carmen; he is survived by his eight children: Margie Malanche (Ramon), Ernestina Arvizu (Ray), Gloria Ramirez (Rudy), Joe Placencia Jr. (Becky), Hector Placencia (RoxAnn), Ralph Placencia, Richard Placencia (Monica) and Gerry Capstick (Tony), and his informal adopted son Arnold Chavez (Theresa). In addition, he leaves 23 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren along with 3 sisters Maria, Lupe and Consuelo. Services will be held Monday, May 27th at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church 4715 N. Central Ave. Phoenix, Viewing from 5-7PM and Rosary 7PM, Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 28th at 10AM. Graveside services will follow Mass at St. Francis Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St, Phoenix, AZ.
