June Maxine Smith

June Maxine Smith, 81, was born March 26, 1932 in Waukegan, Illinois, passed away on April 26, 2013 in Peoria, AZ. June lived in Waukegan Township for 51 years. She relocated to Fresno, California for a short period, before finding her home in the Phoenix, Arizona area.

June made a living for herself and her four children by establishing and maintaining a successful beauty salon in her home in Waukegan. June’s clients were provided with a few welcome hours of vacation and pampering when visiting her shop. She was happiest when there was a crowd around her, so she loved that her clients would often spend many hours having coffee, laughing, and telling stories in the basement.

The community of family and friends was essential to June. Her laughter would ring throughout the house when she held gatherings of loved ones, family and friends. She served wonderful food and made sure that all who were near were well fed and enjoying themselves. She was a true hostess who always happily welcomed one or half a dozen more!

She will be profoundly missed by her family. Surviving her are her sons, Mark Scheribel of Castle Rock, CO; Blake Nahf (Dawn) of Beach Park, IL; and James Vukovich of Houston, TX. Grandchildren; Shannon Ramey, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Scheribel, Angie (Charlie) Garcia Scheribel, Nathan (Chula) Scheribel, Blake (Lyndsay) Nahf, Cody (Heather) Nahf, and Justin Nahf; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Winifred McAlister, her husband Earl Goldsen, her brother Eugene Smith, and her daughter Roxanne Ramey.

Funeral Services will be held on May 11, 2013 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 West Beardsley, Phoenix AZ 85027.
