

Loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Karl Thomas Werner was born on August 8, 1940 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Eloisa Gonzales Werner Howard and Thomas Werner. He attended the University of New Mexico for his undergraduate degree. He then served overseas in the Air Force from 1962 – 1966 where he met and married the mother of his children, Barbara Jean Spencer Werner on August 27, 1966. He then enrolled in Law School at the University of New Mexico but finished his law degree at the University of Utah. After graduation, the couple moved to Redondo Beach, California where Karl passed the bar exam and the couple welcomed their first son, Karl Thomas Werner II, in 1970. The couple then moved back to Albuquerque, New Mexico where Karl joined a local law firm in 1972 and welcomed their second son, Brian Scott Werner in 1973.
Karl opened his own law firm in 1982 specializing in Social Security, Disability and Personal Injury law. He retired from his practice in 2008 and began to move around the country first to Denver, then Las Vegas, then Santa Maria and Buellton, California, then finally arrived in Phoenix in 2020 where Barbara was a supportive caregiver and great friend. Karl passed away at 12:09 am Friday, April 29, 2022 at Honor Health Deer Valley Medical Center.
Karl was happiest when he was with his family at holidays like Thanksgiving, cheering on his beloved Cowboys, horse racing, and playing Craps at the Casino. He enjoyed travelling and would enjoy talking about his various trips. He loved a good political debate. He also loved his many dogs but especially his Korgi, Fergus.
Karl is survived by many loving family members: Uncle Andrew J. Gonzales, half-brother James Alarid, and ex-wife Barbara Jean Spencer Werner, son Karl Thomas Werner II and his wife June Edwards Werner, son Brian Scott Werner and his significant other Lynde Evans, Grandchildren Alyssa Nicole Werner and her husband Andrew Foster, Alex Andrew Werner, Amanda Nova Werner, and Great Granddaughter Aviana June Foster and many cousins and extended family.
