

Katherine Yada died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Phoenix on March 9, 2014, with two daughters at her side. She was 98. Katherine was born April 9, 1915 in a farmhouse in North Dakota to Mike and Katherine (Frey) Hoffer. She was the oldest of the daughters of 14 brothers and sisters who farmed the lands of North Dakota.
Katherine and William (Bill) Yada married in 1939 in Minneapolis MN and in later years moved to Detroit MI.
They had 3 daughters, Sandra, Donna and Shirley (deceased). In 1953, the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona.
Katherine worked at Good Samaritan Hospital until she retired. Desiring independence, she learned to drive in her late 50’s. Bill and Katherine enjoyed metal detecting, back road Jeeping, outdoor picnics, hiking, family gatherings and each other. They were married 55 years.
Katherine enjoyed her life and her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was blessed to have Hospice Care at the end of her journey.
Katherine’s loving family includes daughter Sandra Smith of Phoenix, and her three children, Patty (Allen) Labrozzi and Ted (Linda) Trujillo and his daughters, Montessa and Melissa and son Luke and Sandra‘s son Mark (deceased). Daughter Donna Dale and her husband Jim of Dewey and her children, Jack (Stephanie) and his son Jacob, and daughters Shawn and Taylor Crow, and Donna’s daughter Katherine (Chris) Timm and her children, Josef Carrasco and Charles Timm. Five great great-children also survive, along with her only living sister, Violet Williams of Branson, MO.
Graveside services held at West Resthaven Cemetery in Glendale, AZ, on March 14th, 2014 at 2 PM. Katherine will be placed next to her loving husband Bill and beautiful daughter Shirley.
