

Born in Frankfort, Kansas in 1938 daughter John and Genitha Horigan. Kathy lived in Prairie Village and Topeka until she moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1979 with husband, Jay Alquist. Kathy married Jay in 1957 in Frankfort, Kansas. They had three children: Ann Denise Alquist McKee, Scottsdale AZ, the late Patrick Jay Alquist, Phoenix AZ, and Julie Lynn Alquist Swartz, Scottsdale AZ. and daughter-in-law, Christina Valery.
Kathy was much beloved “Momo” to eight grandchildren: Lucas McKee, Kelsey McKee Bell, Carly Swartz Castro, Charlie Swartz, Timothy Alquist Barrett, Anthony Alquist Barrett, Jay Alquist, and Patrick Alquist, and to five great-grandchildren.
The truest and most rewarding joy of her life was her interaction with her grand and great-grandchildren. They were a constant source of joy and brought laughter and fun into her life. Her family was her foundation and her friends were much cherished. Kathy loved her siblings deeply, reuniting regularly with her sisters Peggy, Mary, and Sharon. She would always look forward to the next “Sisters trip”.
Kathy attended St. Mary’s College and was instrumental in many different careers. Always offering an undeniable contribution to whatever endeavor she was involved in. Kathy loved to decorate and did it beautifully. Her home always looked like a picture from House Beautiful and was never less than spotless. Kathy loved to party on the patio and with effortless style would host holidays and entertain family and friends. Kathy loved to read and work crosswords. She did jigsaw puzzles and played cards. She loved to go out to eat and visit with friends. She loved life, especially with a beer or a scotch on the patio. Kathy was smart, strong, and beautiful. She was fun and had an infectious laugh. There was never a task too daunting, job to difficult, or a beer to tall. Kathy handled her battle with lung cancer and other health issues with grace and dignity.
