Khaja Mushtaq Hussain will be remembered for his devoted love for Allah SWT, sense of humor, and compassion to serve and positively impact people’s lives. From his handwritten poetic letters and cards to family members, his nonstop jokes, to his heartfelt tokens of advice to all who knew him and is the one whom family could lean on for support. He will be profoundly and deeply missed by everyone that knew him.

Mushtaq was born on May 7, 1937, in Hyderabad, India, and migrated to Karachi, Pakistan in 1954 with his family. He was always surrounded by family, friends, and laughter. He was extremely driven and goal-oriented balanced with making family and religion first. He attended the University of Karachi where he obtained his Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1964. Soon after he was awarded an international scholarship and moved to the United States to fulfill his American dream in 1965 where he attended Syracuse University and received his Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 1971.

In 1973, he and his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he lived for the remainder of his life. He was a very well-respected Civil Engineer for the State of Arizona as he was a Certified Professional Engineer in the state of Arizona and the state of Maryland. He directed multiple Departments for the state of Arizona including the Department of Transportation, and Water Resources, and contracted with the U.S. Corps of Engineers. He retired with the highest praise from the State of Arizona in 1997. He also had a mastery of the Urdu language and authored a poetry book.

May Allah SWT accept all his good deeds and grant him the highest level of Jannah which he so deserves.

He is survived by his wife, Barkat Hussain, daughter, Sarwat Hussain Elledge, son-in-law, Christopher Elledge, granddaughter, Yasmine Elledge, step-son Adnan Jaddi, step-daughter, Sabica Jaddi, step-son Rehan Jaddi, step-son Salman Jaddi, and a dozen loving grandchildren.
