Everyone should be so lucky as to have a teacher like Mr. Tipton. I did not have him for homeroom, but I always looked forward to his class even though I knew it would help me accumulate more quiet definitions to write. My sincere condolences to his family.

So sorry to hear of Lee O's passing.  I knew him in college and early teaching years.  I lost track of him when I left Phoenix in '63.  I ran across the obituary reference while viewing GCC areas.  My condolences to his family and friends.  He was a great friend.

Though Mr. Tipton was not my home room 8th grade teacher at Royal Palm, many of my friends were and their enthusiasm for him was clearly apparent. They were 'Tipton's kids' and just seemed to share an enviable camaraderie and community. I found his classes interesting often with humor and yet he ran a tight ship.  There is one class I will never forget.  When our adolescent world was rocked by the sudden tragic death of one of our fellow students, Mr. Tipton spent an entire period addressing the circumstances caringly and without sugarcoating giving an indelible lesson on morality and the consequences of reckless behavior. I am grateful for the memories, Mr. Tipton's influence on me, and offer my prayers and sincere condolences to his family.

Mr. Tipton was my homeroom 8th grade teacher.  He was the grade school teacher who had the most impact on me. His personality, caring, humor, teaching content, and teaching style fascinated me and motivated me academically in ways no teacher had done before. I have thought a lot about him, and like many other of Mr. Tipton's ex-students  with whom I've talked to over the years (invariably his name always comes up), had wondered where has was now, how and what he was doing, wanted to somehow find him to have a conversation and to personally thank him.  I'm very disappointed this  cannot happen now. However, the Mr. Tipton chapter in our lives will always live on in our memories...

It's 1964.  Exit Mrs. Forman's 8th grade homeroom class, round the corner of the building (stepping carefully to avoid the caterpillars invading the breezeway walk from the adjoining cotton field) and enter the wonderful world of Mr. Tipton's 8th grade Civics class.  No nebulous "values clarification" needed here!  We all knew that man stood for something big!  He made a difference in so many of our lives.  The memory of his inspiration lives to this day.  Thank you, Mr. Tipton.

I had Mr. Tipton for one of my 8th grade teachers at Royal Palm.  He was my favorite teacher & I learned so much from him.  He could be tough when necessary but you knew how much he cared.  I remember him to this day & am thankful that I knew him.  May his family be blessed knowing how much he was loved.

What a testimony to a life well lived!  Most of these condolences have been from former students….. evidence of a man who cared about his students, invested in their future and made a difference in so many lives.  I remember being in his class on the day JFK was shot – how he took the time to comfort, encourage and explain what was happening.  For a room full of young, impressionable kids, it was the safest place to be.  Like so many others, Mr. Tipton had a major impact on my life.  May the family take comfort in knowing that he leaves a legacy of hundreds of lives that have been touched, changed and blessed by knowing him.

In 1968 Mr. Tipton was my 8th grade teacher at Royal Palm and like everybody else he was my favorite teacher. His history class was the best. I still know the gettysburg address because of him and to this day I can still hear his teachings. He will be deeply missed.

Only a few teachers are remembered for a lifetime, and Mr Tipton is one of them.  I have often spoken of him through the years as my beloved 8th grade Royal Palm teacher.  May the family be comforted knowing of his lasting legacy.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words about my uncle.  He was quite an amazing man and I know he was a great teacher.  He cared about his students so much and loved to tell stories about all of you. :)  As a teacher myself, I know the greatest compliment you can get is hearing that you made a difference. I was not fortunate enough to have Mr. Tipton for my 8th grade teacher but he was brave enough to be in charge of the pom pom squad of which I was a member.  We absolutely adored him, and I remember we made up words to a song to sing to him at our banquet at the end of the year.  I have such sweet memories of him and his kind, upbeat nature.  He touched my life in a very positive way at a time when I was struggling and I will never forget him.

What a loss. Mr. Tipton was my 8th grade teacher at Royal Palm also. The same class as the others in the guest book. He was an awesome person and the best teacher of any of my school years. Rest in peace Lee. Thoughts and Prayers are with his family.
