Leonard was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 8, 1959, to Janet Drager and Edward Kessner. He was the youngest of their three sons. He was later raised with his siblings, by his dad Edward and Carol Kessner in their home.
He graduated from Greenway Highschool in 1977. He went on to become a Senior Electrician and Safety Manager. He was the owner of L.B.K. Safety LLC., where he did OSHA training and certification.
He met his wife Kimberly through her niece and they wed on October 19, 1979. He was a kind and loving husband and together they built a family that included one son, two daughters, and several fur babies. He considered his family to be his biggest accomplishment. His family continued to grow and he became a grandfather to seven grandchildren and a great grandfather to two great-grandchildren.
Leonard was known to always make people feel welcome and would often go above and beyond to include them in his family. In his lifetime Leonard's love and kindness stretched beyond his family circle and brightened many lives.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hockey games, golf, shooting his guns, country music, and cooking on his grill. You could often find him dressed in his wranglers, complete with his boots and a cowboy hat while sipping on his favorite Bourbon.
Leonard passed away after a short battle with Lung cancer. Just like he dealt with all of his life's experiences, he handled his illness with strength and an amazing sense of humor.
In his last weeks, he spent as much time with his loved ones as possible. For he wanted to be with the ones he adored more than anything else in the world.
In his passing Leonard leaves behind his beloved wife of 41 years, Kimberly, his daughter Jodi and son-in-law Richard, his son Jacob and daughter-in-law Gretchen, his daughter Jillian, his seven grandchildren - Leann(Ryan), Timothy, Jeffrey(Rachel), Kaitlyn, Joy, Richelle, Michael, his two great-grandsons Andrew and Shane, his fur babies Shawn, Gracie, and Lilly, his Mom Carol, his brothers Kenneth, Dennis(Cindy), John(Shawn), and his sister Tami(Dale).
He also leaves behind many additional family members and friends that were dear to him.
He was proceeded in death by his mother Janet and father Edward, his mother-in-Law Doris and father-in-Law John, and his aunt Marianne and uncle Leroy.
Services will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021, at 2 p.m. Anyone who knew Leonard is welcome to join his family at the outside Pavilion located at Phoenix Memorial Cemetery.
"You'll ride a black tornado
'cross the western sky
Rope an ol' blue northern,
and milk it till it's dry
Bulldog the Mississippi
and pin its ears down flat
Long before you take this cowboy's hat"
