Lillian M’lis Stevens, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on February 24, 2019. She was born the third of four children to May and Gifford Farrar on September 24, 1930 in Torrance, CA, and is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lanier Guion Stevens, her brother Gifford Jr., and her sisters Virginia (Sergeant) and Beverly (King). She is survived by her three children, Marcia (Newkirk), Lanier “Steve,” and Ronald; eight grand-children; and nineteen great-grand-children. Although complications from Alzheimer’s affected her more over the last few years, she always remained happy, cheerful, and loving; and she brought joy to everyone who knew her.
Lillian grew up in Southern California, and met her future husband at a youth group at Alhambra Baptist Church in Alhambra, CA. After her marriage in 1949, she remained in Southern California until 1960 when she moved to Phoenix, AZ. She also spent several years living in central AZ in the Prescott area, but moved back to the valley in 2005. She retired from J.C. Penney as an office manager after more than 20 years, was an expert seamstress, loved puzzles, and loved to read. Throughout her life, Lillian regularly attended Church services, taught Sunday School, led Bible Studies, and demonstrated her faith daily. She loved the Lord and loved to sing hymns of praise. Most recently, she attended Bethany Bible Church and was involved with a Bereans fellowship group. She was also a member of the Northwest Valley Baptist Church, and before that was a member of Humboldt Bible Church and Westside Bible Church. A special thank you to her care givers at Autumn Glen where she lived for the past three years and where she became another member of the family.
Funeral Services and Interment will be held at 2 pm on Saturday March 9th at Phoenix Memorial Park – 200 West Beardsley Road, Phoenix, AZ 85027. The family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, or Autumn Glen Elderly Care (autumnglenelderlycare.com), in lieu of flowers.
