Linda Noyes Clifford passed away, peacefully, on October 28, 2014. Linda was born in Pasadena, California, on July 31, 1942. Her parents, Joseph and Martha Clifford were living there while Joe was finishing his naval officer training program. The family spent the war years in Minneapolis, while Joe served on the U.S.S. Yorktown, CV10, in the Pacific theatre of World War 2. In 1949, Martha and Joseph moved their growing family (Joe, Jr., Linda, and Martha) by train to Arizona, and settled in the desert north of Camelback Mountain. The few families in the area had horses, swimming pools, and wide open spaces, which couldn’t have been farther away from Minneapolis. Linda attended Brownmoor Girls’ School and rode horses during the winter. Her favorite summer place was the lumber company town of McNary, in the White Mountains. Her memories of roller skating “crack the whip” with friends in the town park always made her laugh. Her first job, in high school, was upstairs in the women’s department of the McNary General Store. Linda loved musical theater, first as a teenager at Scottsdale High School then helping out in Community Theater and attending the Sombrero Theater in Phoenix. “Heaven will be,” said Linda, “full of family and friends, talking with my brother Joe as he fishes in a stream, and watching Mom and Dad play golf with all their friends again.” Linda is survived by her sisters, Martha and Virginia, her beloved Jennifer, her nephews Andrew (LenRae), Matt (Elise), Ted (Emily), Jason, and Matt, and her grand nephews, Ryan and Dashiell. Linda’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 2 p.m. at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 6300 N. Central Ave., Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, Linda requested donations be made to the All Saints’ Episcopal Church music program. Arrangements under the direction of A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Bethany Chapel, Phoenix, AZ.
