Marjory Willis, a beloved mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, talented artist, and devoted homemaker, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, just one day after celebrating her 97th birthday. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 17, 1928, Marjory lived a life marked by self-reliance, resilience, and a deep connection to the places she called home and those she loved.
Marjory spent her early years in Chicago before eventually moving to Phoenix, Arizona, where she lovingly created a home and lasting memories for her family. Beginning in 1969, Marjory and her beloved husband, Edwin “Spotts” Willis, enjoyed their second home in the pines of Groom Creek, Prescott, Arizona, a place they summered for many years. In 2002, Marjory and Spotts embraced the beauty of Prescott full-time, making it their home for the last two decades of her life. Edwin preceded her in death on January 24, 2004. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and companionship.
Throughout her life, her artistic talents flourished. Marjory found immense joy and expression through oil painting landscapes, capturing the beauty of the world around her. She later discovered an exceptional passion and talent for painting on china. Her creations brought beauty and joy to many.
Marjory's memory will be forever held dear by her loving daughters, Debbie Opitz and her husband John Opitz, and Diane Richardson and her husband Bob Richardson. She is also remembered by her adoring grandchildren, Matthew Opitz and Michael Opitz and his wife Sara Opitz, and her precious great-grandchild, Elise Opitz. She is preceded in death by her brother Harry and his wife Pauline Ruff, and her mother and step-father Christine and Bernard Metz. Her life was a testament to the power of creative expression, the enduring human spirit, and the deep bonds of family which she so diligently nurtured.
A private funeral service for family only will be held to honor Marjory's life. Friends and extended family are invited to a Celebration of Life on August 2nd in Prescott, Arizona, at the home of Debbie and John Opitz.
