Mary Margaret Maxwell
23 septiembre , 1929 – 3 abril , 2014
1929-2014 Mary Margaret Ure Maxwell passed away on April 3, 2014 at the age of 84. Known to most as Margaret, she was born in Kingston, Missouri, the younger child of Helen Ure and William Ure. Margaret and her sister, Ellen Jane Ure Farber travelled alone on the train from Missouri to Arizona at the ages of 5 and 8 respectively to join their mother who had relocated here in 1935 for employment. Margaret graduated Phoenix Union High School and married Thomas J. Maxwell, Jr., shortly after her graduation. She and Tom were married 66 years before his death in March, 2014. Margaret was active in many Phoenix civic organizations including the Arts Council, the Goodwill Auxiliary, the Phoenix Art Museum League and the Phoenix Musical Theater Guild. In addition to civic activities, she was a Brownie Scout and Cub Scout Leader. Early in her marriage she assisted at Mrs. Maxwell's Tutoring School, established by her mother-in-law, Allie Jane Maxwell. During her marriage, Margaret was her husband's greatest supporter, helping him as he left his real estate career to attend medical school in Memphis, TN and as he established his medical practice in Sun City. For many years she was the office manager for his medical practice and was popular with staff and patients alike. More recently, Margaret completed an extensive family genealogy and provided a copy to family members in Arizona and Missouri. Margaret and Tom are the parents of four surviving children: Margaret Maxwell (Anthony Daykin), Thomas J. Maxwell, III (Deborah Kalaf Maxwell), David K. Maxwell (Lucia Steffen Maxwell) and Sarah Lorraine Maxwell. She was predeceased by daughter Katherine Joan Maxwell. Margaret is the grandmother of Thomas J. Maxwell, IV, David L. Maxwell (Rachel Denning), Katherine Riley Maxwell, Jessica Maxwell Jana (Jon Jana), Nathan A. Maxwell, and great-grandmother of Emma Trowbridge and Ethan Cohen and an eagerly awaited baby, Jax Jana. Margaret is survived by her sister, Ellen Jane Ure Farber, and nephews: Stephen Langmade (Emily Flaherty Langmade), Andrew Langmade (Kitty Maloney Langmade) and Carol Farber Jernigan and great nephews and nieces. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, sister, nephews and nieces, but will be remembered for her loving care of us all. A memorial service will be held April 12, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd., Phoenix, AZ.
