

Masu is survived by her son Robert Freeman and her brother in law James A. Freeman and sister in law Shirley Freeman along with several nieces and nephews.
Masu was born in Kyoto, Japan June 24, 1927. She was raised by her mother in the home of her grandmother. Her father had left to become a Buddhist monk. Masu’s mother was an accomplished artist in Kyoto and Masu treasured the paintings by her mother that she had in her possession.
Masu excelled in school, scholastically and was a student leader.
She married Clifford Earl Freeman (1929 – 2017) on October 24, 1956. Cliff, originally from Albany, GA, was stationed by the US Navy in Japan where he met and fell in love with Masu. They originally made their home in California. While in California they adopted their son Robert. They eventually moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where Cliff worked for Honeywell.
Masu worked as a licensed cosmetologist for over 35 years. She ended her career, as a very much in demand hair stylist for Rumors Salon in Scottsdale, cutting hair into her 80s.
In Masu's later life, she was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Cliff served faithfully
as teachers to the children in their ward. Cliff also served as a family history missionary in the Mesa, Arizona Family History Center.
A public visitation service will be held at 2:00pm on February 10, 2026 at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary
