Melanie Jean Hazen

We're sad to share that Melanie “Mel” Hazen passed away on August 16th in Phoenix at the age of 66. She meant so much to many—whether as a family member, friend, or loved one—and will be missed dearly.

Mel was born on May 9th in Cook County Illinois and grew up surrounded by family and friends. She graduated from Shadow Mountain High School, obtained her associated degree from Phoenix College, and worked at several valley hospitals as a medical assistant throughout her career.

Throughout life, she dedicated her time and energy to her family, friends, and beloved cats. People remember Mel for being generous, kind, always willing to help, and always quick to share pictures of her grandchildren. You could always find her camping, relaxing in the pool, or enjoying being surrounded by her family and animals.

She leaves behind her children, Andrew & Amanda, her grandchildren, Willem & Theodore, her sisters Mary, Candy, and Kathy, plus a big group of friends and extended family. Mel was predeceased by her first husband, Robert, her second husband, Brent, her mother, father, and brother.

A memorial service of Mel's life will happen on Thursday August 28th at 11:00am at Shadow Mountain Mortuary. Everyone who knew her is welcome to join and share memories.
