

age of 64. He was a dedicated police officer who served with the Phoenix Police Department for
28 years, leaving behind a legacy of bravery, service, and commitment to his community.
Rick began his career with the Phoenix Police Department on August 2, 1982. He served in
various roles within the department starting out in the Maryvale Precinct. Rick truly found his
calling when he joined the K-9 Unit forming unbreakable bonds with his K-9 partners and
making significant contributions to law enforcement. His courage, expertise, and love for his
four-legged companions earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the
community alike.
Rick retired from the Phoenix Police Department on January 6th, 2010, after years of selfless
service. Yet, retirement did not diminish his passion for helping others. He transitioned to
helping troubled youth at Prairie Lakes Youth Residential Treatment Center for several years.
In his personal life, Rick loved horses and working in the rodeo. He also loved spending time
with his children and friends and watching his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents Ina (Adair) and Merle Brooks. He is survived by
his children Austin (Amanda), Mason and Jordan; grandchildren Michael and Hunter, and siblings, Michelle, Michael and Jane and their children.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Foundation of Retired Police Officers
(FORPO), in honor of Rick's lifelong dedication to serving others.
