

ichael J. Mitten, Sr., 76, of Peoria, Arizona passed away February 6, 2014. He was born in Chicago, IL. on December 1, 1937, the oldest son of Michael A. and Elizabeth E. Mitten, who preceded him in death. His father and fraternal grandparents all immigrated from Luxembourg. The original family name was VanMitten, however, in 1550 when the family immigrated to Luxembourg from Holland they dropped the "Van". He and his family moved to Phoenix in 1943. Mr. Mitten retired in 1991 as a Vice President with First Interstate Bank of Arizona, now Wells Fargo, with 35 years of service. He graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1955, and was Treasurer of the Class Reunion Committee and a member of the Alumni Association. He previously attended Phoenix College, Glendale Community College and was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking. He also was a member and/or officer in various clubs. He did volunteer work for five years at Maryvale Hospital and 10 years at Arrowhead Hospital, Wellness Connection. He was preceded by his son, Kevin Lee Mitten and Granddaughter, Faye Lynn Mitten. Survivors include his loving wife, Betty of 53 years, and son Michael Jr. of Elba, ID. Brothers; John (Janell) and James (Patricia) all of Texas, and many nieces and nephews of Arizona and Texas. Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 W. Van Buren St. Phoenix, Arizona at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in his memory may be sent to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix AZ 85014
