

Murray P. Whichard III was born on December 13, 1941, and passed away on December 23, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Anne. He is survived by his beloved wife, Terri, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage, and his brother, Allen.
Murray attended the University of Virginia before proudly serving in the United States Navy. He enjoyed an illustrious naval career marked by exceptional leadership and dedication to duty, ultimately retiring with the rank of Master Chief. His service took him from the Pentagon to assignments throughout Asia, where he earned numerous medals and commendations in recognition of his integrity, professionalism, and impeccable service to his country.
Following his retirement from the Navy, Murray continued his commitment to public service as the Manager of the Crime Analysis Unit for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. His work reflected the same discipline, intelligence, and quiet leadership that defined his military career.
After retiring from his second career, Murray and Terri relocated from San Diego, California, to Phoenix, Arizona, where they enjoyed their time together and the next chapter of life.
Murray had a lifelong love of films and was an avid collector, appreciating movies of all genres. He also enjoyed reading and spending time watching films, pursuits that reflected his curiosity, intellect, and appreciation for storytelling.
Murray will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his distinguished careers in military and public service, and the steady, honorable presence he brought to all who knew him.
