Otho Boyce Blankenship was born in Pomeroy, Ohio to Frank and Ellen Blankenship on April 8, 1925. He had one older brother, Wayne Blankenship. Otho moved to Phoenix, Arizona at the age of twelve following the death of his father. He attended Washington Elementary School. After graduating from Glendale High School, he enlisted in the Navy. He served as a motor machinist on the U.S.S. Copahee from 1943-1946. In 1946, he began working with his stepfather, Clyde Lewis, pulling irrigation pumps. His career with Phoenix Fire Department began in 1947. He rose to the rank of Captain. He would often state that the best decision in his life was marrying his lovely next door neighbor, Betty, in 1948. He and Betty were happily married for 68 years. Otho and Betty were proud parents of Michael and Patty. Otho was a faithful husband and father. He provided a legacy of faith, honesty, and integrity. He inspired his son and grandson to become Phoenix firemen. The legacy continues as his great grandson pursues the same dream of becoming a Phoenix fighter. Otho was grateful for his career and the family of fire fighters that filled his life. He and Betty attended First Church of Christ (now known as Lincoln Heights Church) for over 65 years. He served as a deacon in the church for many years and, he and Betty attended the same Sunday school class as newlyweds to senior adults. Otho loved to fish for Bass in Arizona Lakes! He loved to fish alone or with friends and family. He knew all the best fishing spots in Bartlett and Roosevelt Lake. He was always ready for the next fishing adventure. His last successful fishing trip with his oldest grandson was the day before his death. He enjoyed time with six grandchildren: Ron, Neil, Ryan, Jenn, Chris, and Matt. He also enjoyed the blessing of great grandchildren: Jacob, Tanner, Katie, Kaycie, Conner, Audrey, Peyton, and Layla. All of the grandchildren enjoyed their grandpa whether spending time at the cabin, fishing, or hanging out at grandma and grandpa’s house. Otho’s quiet faith in Jesus guided his life. He was a man who demonstrated honesty, integrity, and a love for faith and family. Otho was a loyal man who now is in the presence of his Lord. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that gifts be made to Kulpahar Kids Home & Christian School P.O.
