Patty was born on 13 August, 1948, in Queens, New York. She was the first of four children born to William and Maria Roseboom. Patty attended Mt. St. Mary’s College in Newburgh, New York, and as a Novitiate in the Dominican Catholic Order, became Sister William Maria of the Spirit of Love. God had other plans for Patty, however, and having received her calling to be a wife and mother, on 5 June, 1971, married Captain Gregory C. Binder, United States Army, in a ceremony in the Catholic Chapel at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Patty and Greg went on to have 3 children, Jay, William, and Jeffrey, and raised their family in Phoenix, Arizona, where they have resided for the past 43 years.
Patty dedicated her life to education and the education of children. She attended Western Connecticut State, Glassboro State, UTEP, and the University of Arizona where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Later in her life she attended the University of Phoenix and received a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling. She undertook postgraduate work at University of Massachusetts / Harvard and became a Diplomat in the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress (AAETS). She was a PhD candidate in Infant and Early Childhood Development at Fielding Graduate University near the end of her life. She founded and ran the Moon Valley Tipi Preschool in Phoenix, where she impacted the lives of hundreds of children and families. Throughout her life she maintained a love for music, playing both guitar and piano, and lived a life inspired by Mother Teresa’s wisdom, “I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.”
