

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Raymond R. Lawson. Raymond, (Ronnie) was born to Fayette and Mary Lawson on August 7, 1947 in Whitley County, Kentucky. Raymond passed away in his home on Sunday, May 18th at the age of 77, surrounded by loved ones.
Ray moved to Arizona in 1963 at the age of 16 and his first job was as a parking lot attendant in downtown Phoenix. Over the years, he owned several businesses including lawn care services, second hand stores, and a laundromat. He also worked as a machinist for approximately 15 years. There was not much he couldn’t do. Ray’s hobbies included fishing and gardening, his yard was always full of beautiful plants and flowers. He had a love of music, Westerns, and old cars but most of all he had a love for his family and friends.
Ray is preceded in death by his loving wife Bonnie Lawson, daughter Candy Brawner, son Johnny “John-John” Nipp, brothers Mac Lawson, Gorman Lawson and sister Dara Santa Cruz.
Ray is survived by his children Penny Nunley, Johnnie Ray “John Henry” Lawson, Bonita Nipp, Lenora Lawson, and Anthony Lawson (Shannon). Surviving sisters include Norma June Powers, Yvonne Rodriguez, Bobbie Slayline, Wanda Bain and Vickie Averbeck. Ray was proud to be called Poppy by 21 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He was Uncle Ray to many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
A celebration of life, followed by a graveside service will be held in his honor at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary and Funeral Home, 719 North 27th Avenue, Phoenix AZ 85009 on June 6, 2025 at 10 AM-12PM.
