Remijio P. Chacon “Coach Chacon”, aged 77, passed away on November 14, 2021 in his home in Phoenix, AZ. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Martha Chacon (Montoya), his 7 children Remmie, Michael, Chris, Joaquin, Celeste, Robby and Remy, 16 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Siblings Johnny, Sammie, Sylvia, Susie, Lydia, Debbie and Reyes. He is preceded in death by his parents Roberto & Emilia Chacon, siblings Bobby, Lucy, Mary & Rita. He was born in New Mexico and graduated from Eastern Arizona College, Northern Arizona University and Arizona State University. He was a teacher, counselor and coach for many years in several schools in the Phoenix metro area. He was especially proud of his coaching career for which he was rewarded by being inducted into Phoenix Union High School District Wrestling Coach Hall of Fame as well as the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, OK. He found purpose teaching and coaching his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and countless students throughout his career. His hope was that his legacy would live on through them.
He loved fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, and carpentry. He enjoyed his time in the kitchen making green chili, salsa, and banana bread. In recent years he loved watching his grandchildren Emma and Joaquin win wrestling championships. Thank you to his sister Lydia, granddaughter Destinee, nephew Frank (Dilly) and his son Remy for taking good care of him during his battle with cancer.
