

Robert L. (Bud) Johnson beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on July 22, 2012 at his home in Phoenix, AZ. He was born on July 28, 1925 in Ferndale, MI to Thomas J. and Catherine L. Johnson. He attended St. Matthew’s grade school in Flint MI and graduated from Oak Park River Forest Township High School in Oak Park, IL.
He joined the Navy at 18 and proudly served as a Navy Seaman 1st Class in World War II in the South Pacific. He was a navigator and flew many successful missions. After the war he attended college in Florida. He began his long and distinguished sales career with General Foods in Chicago, IL and concluded it with Milhening, Inc. of Bloomfield Hills, MI.
Bud is survived by his wife, Sharan F. Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, his mother-in-law Dorothy C. Hagan of Phoenix, AZ and his nephew Kenneth (Angela) H. Hagan, Jr. and two great nieces, Isabel and Audrey Hagan of Louisville, KY.
Bud was preceded in death by his second wife, Anne Bourne of Iran and England. Bud and her father, “Papa” combined their wealth to fight for freedom and democracy in Iran but the Revolution put an end to that dream.
From his marriage to his high school sweetheart Joan Craig Corlett, Bud has three children. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Catherine Johnson, known as Mimi to the family. He is survived by his daughter Carol (George) Castaneda of Riverside, CA and his son, R. Craig (Suzanne) Johnson of Rancho Santa Fe, CA.
He has five grandchildren: Olivia (Kyle) Boen of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Alexis Salcedo of Sontana, CA, Andrew (Robin) Hamilton of Saginaw, MI, Claire and Hannah Johnson of Rancho Santa Fe, CA. He has five great-grandchildren: Emily, Eric, Colin and Cade Boen of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Braydon Hamilton of Saginaw, MI.
Bud also has seven nieces-Mara (Soupy) Miller, Marian (John) Cotant, Jackie (Chet) Cosby, Nancy Hough, Debbie (Chuck) Smith, Kim (Gordie) Urquhart, Jodie (Pete) Gaudino and one nephew Tom (Katie) Johnson and additional extended family in MI and Il. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Tom (Betty Ann) Johnson of Bloomfield Hills, MI and his brother-in-law, Kenneth H. Hagan, Sr. of Griffith, IN.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 4th, 2012 at Northern Hills Community Church, 2740 E. Union Hills Drive, Phoenix, AZ. Bud’s long-time friend, Executive Pastor Dr. R. Dale Gross and Senior Pastor Nick Ford will be conducting the ceremony. Bud will be inurned at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd on Monday, August 6th at 9:30 A.M. with full military honors. Memorial arrangements were provided by Shadow Mountain Mortuary and Northern Hills Community Church.
