Robert “Bobby” “Robbie” “Rob” Oliver, a proud native of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on March 18, 2026, at the age of 56. Born on December 2, 1969, Bobby was the beloved son of Yolanda Chavez and Robert Joe Oliver. He was raised in a close-knit family and carried those strong family values with him throughout his life. Bobby graduated from Tempe High School in 1987 and went on to attend the University of Arizona, Tucson, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1992. He was a lifelong and passionate Wildcats fan, and his favorite saying—one he shared often and with pride—was “Bear Down.” Bobby was a longtime season ticket holder and loved traveling to home football games, often riding the shuttle with fellow fans, sharing in the energy, traditions and friendships that made those Saturdays so special. Following a proud family tradition, Bobby dedicated 33 years of his life as a firefighter and paramedic with the Phoenix Fire Department. He was deeply honored to serve his community and took immense pride in his work. His commitment was made even more meaningful by following in the footsteps of his father, a respected longtime Assistant Chief & Captain with the Phoenix Fire Department. For Bobby, being a firefighter wasn’t just a job—it was who he was. Bobby was baptized as a Catholic in 1970 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Phoenix. His faith remained a quiet but meaningful part of his life. Bobby will be remembered for his sharp wit, playful sarcasm and his ability to make others laugh. A kid at heart, Bobby brought joy and lightness to those around him. He was incredibly smart, but never took himself too seriously. He had a special and deeply loving bond with his Nana, whom he affectionately called his “Woodsy Owl,” a nickname that reflected both his humor and his heart. Bobby also had a special love for his dogs, Hakuna and Matata, who were loyal companions and brought him great joy. He is survived by his loving mother, Yolanda Chavez; his father Robert Oliver; his stepmother Deb Oliver; his sisters, Brithany McGinty (Bobby) and Baegan Cutright (Travis); his brother, Braylon Oliver (Carli); and many aunts, uncles, niece, nephews, cousins and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Bobby’s life was defined by service, humor and love for his family, community and his Wildcats. His voice, his laughter and his familiar “Bear Down” will echo in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Heavenly Father, we thank You for the life of Bobby—for his service, his laughter, and the love he gave so freely. Welcome him into Your eternal peace, and comfort those who mourn his loss. May his memory continue to bring light and strength to all who knew him. Amen. “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13 In the brotherhood of firefighters, courage is a duty, sacrifice is a calling, and loyalty never fades. Though Bobby has answered his final alarm, his watch may be over—but he will never be forgotten. May God hold him close, and may his brothers and sisters carry his spirit forward in every call, every act of service, and every life saved. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Christ's Church of the Valley (CCV) - Peoria, 7007 W Happy Valley Rd, Peoria, AZ 85383 at 11:00.
