

POORTEN – Rosalie (aka Rosalia) Marie (nee Coppola) of Tucson, AZ and formerly of Phoenix, AZ and Buffalo, NY, born July 3, 1933, lost her battle with cancer on December 30, 2022. Rosalie was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph’s Academy; beloved wife of the late William N. Poorten, Jr.; dearest mother of William (Connie) Poorten, III, the late Mary Jo (Tony Erosky) Marchi, Eileen Poorten, Kevin (Patty) Poorten, Christopher Poorten, and the late Michael Poorten; grandmother of thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister of the late James (Josephine) Coppola, the late Joanne (late Daniel) Carocci, Stephen (Jeanne) Coppola, the late Geraldine (late Sam) Lo Manto, and the late Rita Ann Flessa; sister-in-law to the late Suzanne (late Raymond) Jacobi; also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Rosalie was a dutiful daughter, sister, wife, and mother; generous, fun loving, vivacious beauty, avid Bills, Yankees, and general sports fan, talented dancer, hearty partier, no stranger to a casino, and ran a tight ship at home; a long time special education administrator for Valley of the Sun, Phoenix; an active member and supporter of many organizations including the Women’s Auxiliary of the Erie County Bar Association, Cantalician Center, March of Dimes, Elks Lodge, Civitan Foundation, Special Olympics, the American Legion, the VFW, and the Italian-American Club. A devout Roman Catholic, she treasured meeting the then Pope John Paul II and staying at the Palace of Castel Gondolfo in 1997.
