

Sam Langston Truett, 81, born in Dallas, Texas on September 12, 1942, passed away in Phoenix, Arizona on the morning of January 20, 2024. Sam was a licensed architect who earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. He also served as a helicopter pilot in the United Stated Marine Corps. He was a retired member of the American Institute of Architects and during his storied career he worked as a project manager at a handful of architectural firms in the Phoenix area designing and developing commercial properties and public buildings. He also designed custom homes and planned and oversaw home remodels in his private practice. He married the love of his life, Dannene K. Truett, on April 6, 1968. She preceded him in death in February of 2023. Sam loved cooking and building things. He was a tremendous chef and baker who spent his retirement making delicious food and working on remodeling projects at his home in Phoenix and his cabin in the Munds Park community south of Flagstaff. He leaves behind his two children, J. Bretton Truett and Aubrey Caraway, and their spouses, Fara Zimmerman and Daniel Caraway, respectively. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Georgia Caraway, Kyle Truett, and Lily Caraway, and his sister, Beverly Truett.
