Sharon Elizabeth Osselaer passed away peacefully surrounded by family in her North Central Phoenix home on August 16, 2017, at the age of 81. Sharon was born to the late John and Alpha Spotts in Indianapolis, IN on December 18, 1935. She was a graduate of Holy Cross Central School of Nursing at South Bend, IN. On November 20, 1957, she married Thomas F. Osselaer in Indianapolis and the couple and their young family moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1962.
She is survived by her six sons, Thomas, John, David, Michael, James, and Richard, and their spouses; her brother John Spotts; as well as 18 grandchildren (with 1 more on the way); and 2 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her sister Patricia and her husband Tom. She spent countless hours over the past two decades volunteering at the Assistance League of Phoenix and was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic parish. Sharon always enjoyed playing tennis and was only slowed down from pursuing this passion when confronted by a fight with leukemia. Nevertheless, in recent years she continued her love of tennis by attending matches with her sons, including Wimbledon and the US Open. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed reading the latest novels with her book club groups. At the end of the day, her real joy in life was spending time with “her six boys,” her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her large circle of friends – all of whom she genuinely loved.
A funeral is scheduled for 10 am on Monday, August 21, 2017, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at 4715 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, 85012, with a reception to follow at the parish hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sharon’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Assistance League of Arizona at 9224 N. 5th St., Phoenix, AZ 85020, or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Hospice of the Valley, the nurses and doctors at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital and especially her sister-in-law Kathy Spotts for their care for Sharon during her final days.
