Sophie Saiz

Sophie Saiz died peacefully in her home on June 13, 2016 at the age of 96. Sophie was born on March 9, 1920 in St. Johns, Arizona to her parents, David and Amalia Chavez. She married Joe Saiz in 1940 and had three children, who were born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Sophie was a loving and strong, mother, grandmother (nana), and tia to all. She was an amazing cook whose specialties included beans, chili, and sweet rice. She enjoyed watching old western movies and was one of the biggest Suns, Diamondbacks, and Cardinal fans around. Sophie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Juan Rivera of Phoenix, Arizona; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Virgie Saiz, her daughter, Molly Jara and over 40 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe. Sophie will be buried on June 21, 2016. The services will be held at A. L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary at 710 W. Bethany Home Rd. The viewing will begin at 9:30am and services will commence at 10. Sophie will be buried at the Greenwood Memory Lawn on 2300 W. Van Buren, which will be followed by a celebration of life at The American Legion Post 41 at 715 S. 2nd Ave, Phoenix, AZ. Happy trails to you, Sophie Saiz.
