Steve, also known as “Fish” grew up in Scottsdale. He was the son of Ralph and Adeline Fischer, and the younger brother of Suzi Fischer Vago and Vicki Fischer Martin. His childhood was spent enjoying the family cabin at Bear Park, near Flagstaff, and vacations in San Diego. His father, Ralph was a Navy Veteran, who passed his love of boats, fishing and water on to his son.
Steve attended St. Theresa elementary school, Brophy Prep, and graduated from Gerard High School. He attended the University of Arizona, where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity.
After some time searching for the right career, Steve became a Paramedic. He spent many years as an EMT and firefighter for Rural Metro, achieving the rank of captain. His kind and gentle nature made him a welcome presence at the side of those he was called upon to help.
Steve and his wife Kelly founded Paradise Scuba in, which subsequently became Phoenix Scuba. Together they built a thriving business with many customers who became friends. There is nothing that Steve liked better than the ocean. He was very lucky to find Kelly to share that love with him. Their goal was, to “make a million divers, not a million dollars.”
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents. His beloved wife Kelly passed away in 2024. He is survived by his two stepsons Michael Hill and Richard Hill (wife Leighanne Baskin Hill) and four grandchildren, Devin Hill, Nathan Hill, Caleigh Brett, and Phillip Savilia; sisters Vicki Fischer Martin (Mark), Suzi Fischer Vago, 6 nieces and two great nephews and three great nieces.
