Steve was born in Tiffin, Ohio, on September 16, 1948, to Richard Webb and Josephine K Webb (Paulus). From a very young age, he had an intense interest in anything related to animals. He had a special connection as a youngster to Matt and Bess – caretakers of the local fairgrounds – where he spent the majority of his time grooming, and “cooling” racehorses stabled there. His experiences at the fairgrounds were a source of much laughter in later life as he would regale funny stories of his escapades & unheard-of adventures for a child of that age.
He graduated from Columbian High School in 1967 and drafted into the U.S. Army shortly after graduation. Upon returning home, he continued studies at Tiffin University in Law Enforcement and worked at General Electric for approximately 15 years – being laid off for the final time with a plant closure. Wonder Bread, in Salt Lake City, had the best “bulk man” for 25 years.
You didn’t really know Steve unless you experienced the full scope of his humor, quick wit, candor, stubbornness, relentless tenacity to get something he wanted, and a forthrightness that was off-putting at times. But he never met anyone he couldn’t talk to – from someone with Alzheimer’s who always remembered him when she didn’t recognize her own family, to children of all ages. He loved finding out about people and what they were doing with their lives.
He had many loves in his life. His love of animals was lifelong. He wasn’t a hunter – just a collector who had an extensive taxidermy collection that he cherished & always engaged in the thrill of the hunt for the “bigger” one. He loved his home, being outdoors, and continually working on his pride and joy – his lawn. He had a passionate interest in collecting bronze art, artwork, antiques, and primitives. Above all, the two loves of his life his Angel and “Perry Street Girl”, Deb, and their “Lady girl.”
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Deborah (Banks), of 38 years, sister-in-law Carol (Michael) Webb of Republic, Ohio, and nieces and nephews.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Webb, Josephine K. Webb (Paulus), and brother, Michael (Carol) Webb.
