Sylvia Piekutowski was born in South Milwaukee, WI, on July 9, 1913. She was the oldest of three children, and lost her father at age 6. She played the organ at church and enjoyed being part of a Polish dance group. She attended Business College and became a legal secretary. On April 18, 1942, Sylvia married her beloved husband of 59 years, Robert Dockery and had one daughter. They moved to Phoenix in 1960 to escape the cold Wisconsin winters. There she continued to be a career woman and enjoyed being a part of Phi Sigma Alpha, Arizona Alpha Chapter, her professional sorority. Sylvia was an avid reader until she lost her eyesight due to macular degeneration. She was also a world traveler and enjoyed cruising with her favorite sister-in-law. Sylvia enjoyed a very full and rewarding life in her 103 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2001, her sister Judy Zorn, and brother Raymond Piekutowski, and is survived by her daughter Julie (Daniel) Salley, grandson Shane Salley, granddaughter Jacquelyn (Sam) Moore, Teagan and Clare, her two great-granddaughters, and many loving nieces and nephews. Sylvia was a true inspiration to all who knew her.
