Thomas (Tom) E. Fink, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away on Saturday, July 18th, 2020. Tom was born on August 9,1940 to Edward L. Fink and Sarah A. (Young) Fink, in Sioux City, IA. Tom grew up in Sioux City, where he also graduated from East High School in 1958 and attended Morningside College. He married Deanna (Corr) Fink in June of 1959 and together they had two children, Tom, Jr. and Christy. After a brief time in Cedar Rapids and Glenwood, IA, and a decade in Omaha, NE, Tom and his family moved to Loveland, CO in 1977. After many years in Colorado, Tom started a new chapter in Scottsdale, AZ.
In 1958, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1964. He had a variety of career ventures, including many years in retail management, owning and operating a wholesale showroom at the Denver Mart, and owning and operating a car business with his son, Tom Jr. He loved work and refused to give it up in his “retirement years.” He held various sales positions (shoes, jewelry, and cars to name a few) and his charisma paved the way for his success in every endeavor.
Tom was a sophisticated man who stressed the importance of knowledge and culture. He loved History (particularly WWII), discussing politics, and talking about the world at large. He treasured his travels abroad and enjoyed his time in Mexico so much that he purchased a beachfront vacation home. He took pride in everything he did, from his dapper looks to his work ethic. He stayed active by playing racquetball and riding his bike (often with his dog Shonie running alongside), and he stayed in shape despite his nagging sweet tooth.
Tom lived life to the fullest. From the lakes to the roads to the skies, he always brought the fun and adventure. He owned boats for most of his life and spent many crazy weekends with family and friends waterskiing and having too much fun. His love for planes and passion for flying were also dear. He had his pilot’s license and thoroughly enjoyed flying friends back to Lincoln, NE for Cornhusker football games. He also had a great love of cars, his favorite being his 1955 Ford Thunderbird, which is still a family treasure.
Tom is survived by his sister, Betty Ann (Duane) Burke of Sergeant Bluff, IA; son, Tom Fink, Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ, granddaughter Ashley (Mitch) Price and great granddaughters Kinley and Taelyn, of Johnstown, CO, and granddaughter, Jesica Kelly and great grandchildren Chloe, Daniel, Noah and Jackson of Greensboro, NC; daughter, Christy Fink (Bob Slentz) of Highlands Ranch, CO, granddaughter Nicole Fink of Denver, CO, and step-grandchildren Eric Slentz of Aurora, CO, Brian (Robin & daughter Lily) Slentz of Aurora, CO, and Julie Slentz of Los Angeles, CA; many nieces and nephews; and his partner, Robin Hackett of Scottsdale, AZ.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his former wife, Deanna Fink of Loveland, CO.
Due to the current conditions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
