Veda L. Ross, 87, of Goodyear, formerly of Surprise, AZ., went to be with our Heavenly Father on Wed., Dec. 24, 2014. She was born in Des Moines, IA, on April 24, 1927, to Helen and Earl Deaton. She attended St. Paul Bible College, with Biblical Studies and Ministry as her focus. She married Blaine Ross on April 14, 1950, at Grandview Baptist Church in Des Moines. Veda worked for the United States Postal Service for 21 years, mostly on mail sorting machines. She, along with Blaine, retired from the Post Office in 1990. Veda was a member of Grace Bible Church in Sun City for 20 years, and considered it a great blessing to worship and serve alongside her friends there. She enjoyed singing in the choir and supporting various missionaries throughout the years.
Veda and Blaine spent much of their retirement years traveling. Their favorite place to visit was Hawaii, making 13 trips to the islands in 20 years. They put many miles on their truck and 5th-wheel "home away from home", traveling to Iowa, Missouri, Colorado, Utah, the Pacific Northwest, and Canada. They also spent several summers in Yellowstone, while Veda worked in a Gift Shop and Blaine worked at the Post Office in the park. They also enjoyed an Alaskan cruise and trips to South Korea and the island of Fiji.
Veda is survived by her husband of 64 years, Blaine, her daughter Jill (Mike) Kauffroath, her son Greg (Lynn) Ross, her daughter Jacquie (Dave) Arnold, her son Jeff (Debbie) Ross, 9 Grandchildren, and 16 Great-Grandchildren. Those that preceded her in death are her infant daughter, Nola Jeanine, in 1952, her son Jonathan Blaine, in 1982, her brother, Harl, and her parents, Earl and Helen Deaton.
A celebration of Veda's life will be held at a later date.
