Your mother was a very special person we will always remember her.  i remember her dark black rim glases that she wore.  She was a unique person and her sense of humor was great. I first met Virginia when she was a resident of Lemon Grove Apartments, and I was her caregiver.  We bonded over stories of Arizona history and our mutual love of animals.  Virginia took an instant liking to my son who was only 7 or 8 at the time, and insisted he care for her cat Penny. At the young age of 87,  Virginia said she was "too old" to care for Penny, and we gladly took the cat home as our own.  I am happy to say that Penny is doing well at 19 years of age, and over the past decade Virginia continued to rescue a number of furry friends.  She will be missed my many, people and animals alike.

I met Virginia in 1995 when she called me to locate eldercare services for a friend of hers. We talked for a quite a while and found she had been in Phoenix from basically the beginning. A favorite memory of mine is how she and a girlfriend help name our state bird the Cactus Wren. I loved her "out of the blue" phone calls and will truly miss her wonderful sense of humor.

I first met and talked to Virginia in 1995 when she was trying to find some eldercare services for a friend of hers. After talking for a while, she told me about how long she lived in Phoenix and I was amazed that she had been from basically the beginning. I told her my wife and I were natives of Phoenix as well and friendship began. Virginia told us the story about how she and a girlfriend found that Arizona didn't have a state bird. Her friend's dad was in the Legislature at the time and they would go to the Capitol and listen to them present Bills. Well, the two of them loved the Cactus Wren, they told her friends dad who presented the Bill and the rest is history. That is just one of many stories she shared with my wife and I over the years.  We will truly miss her calls from "out of the blue" and her wonderful sense of humor.

Virginia was a wonderful friend and neighbor of our family on Portland Street.  I remember a cup of coffee and a good conversation was something to enjoy with her.  She told many interesting stories of living in early Phoenix years.  We shared an interest in flower and garden seeds and then enjoyed the fruits of our labor from planting and harvesting from our gardens.  We moved away and lost touch, but there are many fond memories of visits with her over the back fence.  Our prayers are with Marcia and family for God's blessings and comfort at this time.
