

There was a graveside burial on Wednesday, October 2, at Glendale Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by the Fort Huachuca Color Guard.
Warren Alfred Howk was born to Henry J. and Martha (Brandenburg) Howk on September 10, 1913 in Sturgis, Michigan in St. Joseph County.
After graduating from Burr Oak High School in 1941 he was employed at the Victor Screw Products in Burr Oak, Michigan until his entrance into the army.
He served in the army during WWII. Warren was a tail gunner with Sq A 1504th AAF Base Unit. This Squadron earned many decorations and citations including the EAME Ribbon with Five (5) Bronze Stars and the Distinguished Unit Badge Air Medal with four (4) Oak Leaf Clusters for the battles and campaigns including Rome-Arno, Northern France, Air Offensive Europe, Air Combat Balkans. Warren flew 51 successful missions on the same B24 Liberator Bomber and the same squadron.
Warren also served his country during the Korean War and earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. From 1950 -1955 his assignment was the Geodetic Survey in Panama and Central America.
Warren married Salomé Jimenez de Castro in the Nunciatura Apostólica Chapel in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, C. A. on May 9, 1953. They moved to Chicago in 1955.
Warren earned an engineering degree form The Allied Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois and went to work with Modern Light. He went on to manage all aspects of this manufacturing and design firm until 1978.
Warren and “Meme” retired to Glendale, AZ in 1978. They were members of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Warren was very active with the St Vincent DePaul Society at his church.
He is survived by his sister Shirley Jellison of Sturgis, Michigan, his two children, Mary C. Howk-Hanley of Cave Creek, AZ and William J. Howk of Glendale, AZ and three grand children, Derrick Howk of Savannah GA, Jeremy Howk of Los Angeles, CA and Cody Howk of Glendale, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, “Meme” and two siblings Donald, and Richard Howk.
