Wilma Meier

Wilma was born June 13, 1923, in Bridgeport, West Virginia to the late Fred and Virginia Fesler. She was the sixth of eight children in her family and grew up in a two bedroom house with her parents and her siblings. As a child growing up in the depression years, she recalled that their meals consisted of beans and potatoes one day and potatoes and beans the next day. The meals were supplemented by vegetables from their backyard “Victory Garden”.

Wilma graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1941 and enjoyed keeping in touch with her fellow classmates, especially for their class reunions.

She moved to Arizona in the late 1940s and met and married Arthur Kuhlman in 1950. Arthur passed away in 1989.

Always interested in education, Wilma returned to school in 1977 and was very proud to have earned her Associate of Arts degree from Phoenix College in 1980. Wilma married Arthur Meier in 1993 and they enjoyed almost 15 years together before Art passed away in 2007. Art shared a love of travel, and though they were by then into the seventh and eighth decades of their lives, they enjoyed multiple trips to Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, France and Germany as well as the Holy Land. One of her favorite trips was to Oberammergau, Germany, to see the Passion play in 2000. She had hoped to be able to travel to see the next performance of the play in 2020. Wilma is survived by her children Donna, David (Paula), and Diana; grandchildren Michelle (Richard) , George (Erin), Dianna (Steve), Erik (Melanie) and Scott (Michelle); and great-grandchildren Rachel, Lydia, Daniel, Christopher , Henry, Ethan, Troy, Joslyn, Dylan, Ryan and Bryce. She is also missed by the Meier family and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen and Mary Ellen; and five brothers, Dana, Ralph, Delmer, Robert, and Fred Jr. Also by Arthur Kuhlman and Arthur Meier, twin girls who were stillborn and oldest daughter Edith (Billi).
