

Carroll “Shorty” Fulton Childs, 77, husband of the late Patricia Jennings Childs, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. Born in Pickens County on December 11, 1939, he was the son of the late Dwight and Thelma Davis Childs. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church and was retired from Cornell, after working with them for 52 years. Shorty loved his family and church, and was a very giving person. He was a HUGE Clemson Tigers fanatic and enjoyed taking care of his furry companion, Lucky. Surviving are his three sons, Joey Childs, Markham Childs, and Dan Childs (Melissa); two brothers, Jerry Childs and Chuck Childs (Renea); three sisters, Trula Davis (Doyle), Lavon Walker, and Judy Shackleford (Doug); nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Along with his parents, Shorty was predeceased by a son, Stephen Childs, and a brother, Harold Childs. A celebration of Shorty’s life will be held on Friday, January 20, 2017, at 3 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Greg Phillips and Pastor Tommy Hayes officiating. Receiving of friends will be prior to the service from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. The family encourages everyone to wear something with Clemson Tigers, to honor Shorty’s favorite team.
