Eugene "Gene" Dewees Jr.

Gene was born on November 14, 1958, in Greenville, South Carolina.

Gene took his last breath Sunday but opened his eyes to see the face of Jesus. Gene gave his life to Christ on October 30th, 2016. If there ever was a changed man, it was him. He loved going to church, though his job kept him away some. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. An iron worker and foreman for Powell Construction Company, he loved his job and the people he worked alongside. He had a strong work ethic and took great pride in what he did. Though he was looking forward to retiring in July, he retired to Heaven instead. Gene was a family man and loved his wife dearly.

Gene is survived by his beloved wife Carol Sweet Dewees; daughter Crystal Meyer (Ben); grandson raised in the home Corey Owens; granddaughter raised in the home Makynsi Owens (Andrew); grandson Tristan Burrell (Morgan); three granddaughters Lexi Pridmore, Ava Meyer, and Kailea Meyer; grandson Bentley Fricks; great-grandson Harrison Burrell.

Gene is now in Heaven with his daughter Sonya Shirley and son Joey Gravley and most of all he is now in the presence of the Lord. We know we will have a great reunion someday, but until then we are comforted knowing he is in the arms of Jesus.

A visitation for Eugene will be held Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home, 2402 Gentry Memorial Highway, Pickens, South Carolina.

A visitation will also be held Friday, February 28, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM, at Dillard Funeral Home with a funeral service to begin at 2:00 PM. A committal service with military honors will follow at Grace Baptist Church, 930 N Old Pendleton Rd, Liberty, SC 29657.
