

Born to Horace and Rebecca Bryan Walker of Oglethorpe, Georgia on December 23rd, 1935.
She graduated Oglethorpe High School in 1954 then moved to Macon, Georgia where she would attend secretarial school and meet her husband of 62 years Johnny Douglas Ruffin and married on February 25th, 1956.
After finishing secretarial school, Evelyn would go on to work for some of the most influential men in business in Macon.
Two Time Mayor of Macon and President of the Macon Chamber of Commerce - Mr. B.F. Merritt, President of Fickling and Walker - Mr. W.A. Fickling Sr., Macon Mayor - George Israel, and Vice President of the Macon Chamber of Commerce - Mr. Glen West.
She was active in the NSA National Secretaries Association and served as President of the Middle Georgia Chapter.
After retiring from the Macon Chamber of Commerce, Evelyn, drawing from her talents in art and design, began creating truly beautiful and unique corn shuck flowers and arrangements including wreaths and dolls for which she became quite well known for in the arts and crafts world. When husband Doug retired, the two set out to create rustic, rural themed bird houses which became so popular, she discontinued her corn shuck flower business.
Evelyn was a very active and proud member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Macon where she enjoyed lending her talents to the decorating committee as well as creating the landscape design during the remodeling of the church.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Doug Ruffin, sister Fran Walker Mueksch of Scribner, Nebraska and brother Clifford N. Walker of Macon.
She is survived by her son Jay and his wife Brenda Ruffin of Salem, South Carolina as well as her Grandson and his wife Brian and Lorina Ems and Great Grandson Carter Wayde Ems of Greer, South Carolina.
Funeral services will be held later in the spring at Macon Memorial Park, Macon, Georgia.
