Westminster SC - Frank Del Toro passed on 7/22/25 at 11:11 PM , 11 days after his 60th wedding anniversary with Lydia Del Toro Vazquez-Almodovar. He is survived by his wife, his sons Carlos and Nelson, grand children Jeremy, Matthew, Elijah, Kiana and Vialana, as well as great-grand daughters Kyla and Malia, and his sister Gladys.
Frank was born in Brooklyn, April 18th, 1938 and had 5 siblings Lucile, Mercedes, Manual, George, and Gladys. Immediately after high school graduation, he enthusiastically enlisted into the Marine Corps to gallantly serve his country. Among other honors, certificates and medals he served faithfully against the insurgent Viet Cong from 1967 to 1968. He received the Navy Achievement Medal in service of Third Amphibious Force as a Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the G-3 Graphics Unit for “…outstanding professional knowledge…recording pertinent combat data…distinguished Topographic Draftsman…development of improved methods…and outstanding professionalism, initiative and loyal devotion.” He retired with honors after 20 dedicated years of service. Frank continued his service to our country in urban planning for the cities of Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale Florida, for an additional 20 years.
At age 27 he married Lydia and nurtured 11 year-old Carlos and 9 year-old Nelson as his own, including them in his fantastic voyage through the Marine Corps, into South Florida and finally South Carolina. He was a devoted uncle to his nieces/nephews/extended family. He was a selfless, patient and dedicated father, grandfather, father in law, brother and most of all, husband.
His homes in South Florida literally became the Transition Hotels for numerous family members from New York to Puerto Rico who eventually made Florida their home. There are generations of family members residing throughout Florida today who do not realize they have their family there because of his unselfish hospitality. He exemplified “Mi Casa es Tu Casa” “To a Tee”. Frank and his brother, Manuel, were the Louis and Clark of Florida for our Puerto Rican families. It is simple to see that Frank's greatest and most sustaining achievements are related to his humble, sincere and giving spirit he shared with family and friends. Over the last decade you rarely have seen him without his Marine Corps caps he proudly wore. He was formed by his parents and siblings, his integrity forged by the Marines, and his loving spirit refined by God so we could be blessed by his presence in our lives.
A graveside service for Frank will be held Monday, June 30, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Oconee Memorial Park, 1923 Blue Ridge Blvd, Seneca, SC 29672.
Frank will be entombed at Oconee Memorial Park.
