Georgia Morrison Leigon Georgia Morrison Leigon (Durham Backus), 88, of Pickens, SC and Las Vegas, NV, passed away quietly on June 28, 2014 with her family by her side. Georgia was born in Spring Creek, WV to Ted and Sarah Jane Morrison on January 25, 1926. She attended Pickens High School and later married Cliff Durham. Soon after, they moved to Las Vegas. Georgia’s accounting skills ultimately led her to work at United Mortgage where she met her second husband Lee Backus. The two formed Decatur Mortgage and Loan Co., but found time to enjoy golf and traveling until his passing on July 1, 1989. In 1993, Georgia married Ralph Leigon. The two enjoyed traveling and playing golf until Ralph’s passing on June 15, 2012; at which time, she returned to Pickens, SC and lived quietly with her brother T.R. and sister-in-law Avanell. Georgia will be remembered by her family and friends as an avid golfer, skilled bridge player, dedicated P.E.O. member, devoted Trustee on the Board for First Methodist Church, and most importantly, her love, guidance and assistance to those around her. Georgia was a three time cancer survivor. She will be missed by all those that knew her. She is survived by her brother T.R. Morrison, Jr. (Avanell), Aunt Virgina Grant (Ray) nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, step-children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday June 30, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Dillard Funeral Home. Chapel Service will be at 11:am Tuesday July 01, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens. Memorial may be made to Grace United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 309 E. Cedar Rock Street, Pickens, SC 29671. The family will be at the home of her brother T.R. Morrison. Dillard Funeral is assisting the Leigon family.
