Joan Ferrell Sherman Kennedy

Mrs. Kennedy was born in Nashville, NC on November 22, 1930 to the late Wessie and Mary Georgia Bullock Ferrell. She was twice married, first to the late Fred Sherman and second to the late Dr. William Kennedy. She graduated from the University of North Carolina with her bachelor's degree in teaching, and was a longtime fan and supporter of UNC sports. In addition to her love for the Tar Heels, she was passionate about golf and had a unconditional love for all animals. She also enjoyed playing basketball and bridge. Mrs. Kennedy was of the Presbyterian Faith.

Mrs. Kennedy is survived by her one daughter: Mary Jo Sherman McCarthy (Grady) of Sunset, SC; two grandchildren: Molly McCarthy Depratto and Daniel McCarthy; four step-children: Billie Nance (Johnny), Lorna McElroy, Jan Wardlaw, and Scottie Kennedy; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren from her second marriage.

In addition to her husbands and her parents, Mrs. Kennedy was preceded in death by a brother: Reginald Ferrell.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens, SC. The family will greet friends in the Chapel following the memorial service on Tuesday.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Forest Hills Cemetery in Nashville, NC.
